Our privacy policy

What is this disclaimer about?

We take data privacy seriously, and we want to be crystal clear about what, why, and how we collect and use any of your personal information. This initiative has been designed to help encourage, make, and celebrate personal commitments by people of faith, spirit, and conscience ... we want you to feel comfortable and excited as you join in Living the Change!

What data is being collected here?

Your first name, last name, email, and optionally your faith tradition, postal/zip code and phone number if you choose to share them, are the only pieces of personal information collected. As part of your participation in Living the Change, we also store the text of your pledge and of the one or several commitment(s) that you make on the website.

Why are we collecting this data, and how will it be used?

We collect the information listed above so that we can be in relationship with each participant or groups of participants in a tailored, meaningful way as we lead and organize the Living the Change initiative. For example, knowing in which country participants live allows us to offer an online hub to all people living in a specific country, when we know that there is an adequate number of participants there. We also collect this data to better understand which commitments are the most popular and how participants journey in Living the Change, allowing us to improve the initiative when lessons are learned.

Will my first name and last name be shared publicly if I pledge and/or commit?

We would like to display the names of people of faith, spirit, and conscience who have made a pledge, one or several commitment(s), or both, as participants in Living the Change. It is inspiring and brings in a deeply human dimension. However, we will only share your first name and last name if you provide informed consent by clicking the second box on the pledging and/or committing pages ("I agree that Living the Change displays my first name and last name publicly, within the list of participants who have made a pledge" / "I agree that Living the Change displays my first name and last name publicly, within the list of participants who have made one or several commitment(s)").

Will my pledge and commitment be shared publicly?

We hope to use key opportunities to share commitments publicly as a way to demonstrate our resolve to decision-makers as well as celebrate and inspire even more people to change -- that is part of Living the Change's core mission. However, we will only do so if you provide informed consent by clicking the third box on the pledging and/or committing pages ("I give permission for Living the Change to share my pledge publicly" / "I give permission for Living the Change to share my commitment(s) publicly"). For example, we read commitments aloud during the Global Climate Action Summit's Multi-Faith Service at Grace Cathedral!

Who can access the data collected here?

All data will be stored by GreenFaith (1216 Broadway, Fl. 2, Rm. 1005, New York City, NY 10001 -- +1-917-997-8783 -- info@greenfaith.org), the directing organization of Living the Change. It can be accessed only by the Living the Change team, that includes contractually-bound GreenFaith staff or consultants, as well as volunteer members of the team who have signed an agreement for services containing a confidentiality close. When a partner organization listed on the "About Us" page of the website recruits and engages people as Living the Change participants via its own channels (e.g. via a source code), data of these very participants will be made available to this third party.

How long will my data be retained?

All data will be stored as long as the Living the Change initiative is running, and then 5 years after the end of the initiative. The latter period would allow GreenFaith and Living the Change to reconnect with participants, in the case the initiative would restart.

Can I make a request about my personal data?

You may contact us at any time to request to access your data, or that we modify your data, or that we erase your data from our files, or that we limit our use of your data, by emailing info@livingthechange.net We commit to responding to your request quickly and at the latest one month after your email.

Who can I contact if I have more questions or requests?

You may contact us at any time to request details about the information we store or for any other question or request by emailing info@livingthechange.net We commit to responding to your request quickly and at the latest one month after your email.
